Lots of things: Can cause a sore tongue and being overly tired. The large bumps on the back of the tongue are probably just the normal anatomy of the tongue. Thick saliva means that you are not hydrated. You can drink more liquids and that might solve everything. If you have other symptoms of illness, such as fever, cough, runny nose, etc. Then you might have a cold or other illness.
