On my gastroscopy i found out i had (translated) "hernia in the cardia" is that the same thing as hiatal hernia but a different word?

Hiatal hernia: Can contain cardia (upper portion) of stomach. It can be dangerous if you have the paraesophageal type of hiatal hernia, so discuss with your GI specialist. If so, you will need immediate surgery to correct the paraesophageal defect in order to prevent strangulation of hernia contents.

Believe so: The gastric cardia is the very upper part of the stomach just below the esophagus. As such, it is commonly involved in hiatal hernias. Therefore, I think that is exactly what your doctor was describing.
