Multiple types: There are a number of various types of hernias. Inguinal or groin hernias are fairly common in children and older adults. Femoral hernias are uncommon and occur in women. Obturator hernias are also rare. Incisional (or ventral) hernias are not uncommon. Congenital hernias include diaphragmatic hernias and umbilical hernias, the latter are common in children and may resolve spontaneously.
