Start by....: Start by seeing and consulting with your local general dentist. He\she will evaluate your dental problems and refer you, if necessary, to someone with more training and experience treating patients with tmd\tmjoint problems if that is what is needed. On the other hand, your pain may be related to any one of a number of tooth and\or gum issues.

TMJ, Tooth, MI: At your age, make sure you're not having heart problems if left sided jaw pain. Then see dentist. If dental problem, treat. If jaw joint (TMJ) problem, see TMJ expert. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referrals.
