Swelling: Abdominal wall hernias can occur primarily or through a previous incision. Local symptoms include swelling at the site particularly with standing or straining, localized discomfort intermittently, or no symptoms at all. Any suspected hernia should be evaluated by your surgeon, and electively repaired, to avoid the complications of incarceration, obstruction and strangulation.

Pain and Bulge: Typical symptoms of a hernia are pain or discomfort, and a bulge under the skin that is more pronounced with coughing, andaybbe even disappear when lying down. If your concerned, see your promary care provider for an exam. Hope this helps!
