Medical check up: You need to get a medical examination from your PCP or a surgeon. Any swelling that is persisting is more likely something serious and not simply a sprain. Your doctor can examine you and obtain imaging X-rays/scans to look deeper and make sure that you do not have a tumor or bleeding into the muscles.

Strain?: I wouldn’t expect a hernia in the upper abdomen. So it could be a muscle strain. But there are organs there, too - gallbladder, liver, pancreas, stomach. If you’re still symptomatic, you may want to see a doctor to make sure you have no pathology inside the abdomen.
