PRK vs. Lasik: PRK came 1st.We still recommend it or it remains an option-PRK is safe and successful.Lasik came later and it is the PRK but under a protective layer of the corneal surface. This layer depth is 100 microns & it is a protective flap that opens/lifts up and allows the PRK to be given the same way but 100 microns down in the 500-600 micron cornea. Lasik has less pain and gives faster vision in 1st wk
