Yes it is normal: Your infant has an umbilical hernia. Most of these close or go away by one year of age and leave a normal looking belly button.

?hernia: It might be an umbilical hernia, which is not uncommon. However, it cannot be diagnosed without a physical exam, so i would mention it to your pediatrician at your next visit. He or she needs to feel the belly button, determine if it is a hernia, and if so find out what size it is. Small ones can close on their own, larger ones sometimes need help.
