Vitamin B12 : Vitamin B12 deficiency is a possible cause. It is often missed because the regular blood test for vitamin B12 is unreliable. There are two sensitive tests that can be done, one is homocysteine level and the other, methylmalonic acid. An alternative to these tests is to get weekly vitamin B12 injections for a few weeks to see if it makes a difference.
