Many things: Need examination by physician with exam and possible imaging studies. Soft tissue or bone problem. Infection, arthritis, joint effusion. Bursitis, and even tumor are all possible. A lot depends on duration of symptoms, what movements aggravate pain, swelling, redness etc.
