Hard to answer: Pulpotomy is usually a procedure for primary (baby) teeth, or an emergency procedure to relieve pain in a permanent tooth. In the latter example, root canal therapy is typically initiated soon afterwards. In primary teeth it is quite successful in preserving a tooth for a short time (2-5+) years. More recent research is trying to increase success rates in adult teeth hoping to make it + i.

Depends: It depends upon how far along and how badly broken down the tooth is. Like most medical or dental problems- the longer the problem exists prior to being treated, the less successful the treatment.

For baby teeth: Pulpotomy is a procedure to remove infected "nerve" of baby tooth and fill the nerve chamber. Most often performed by pediatric dentist, but sometimes by endodontist or general dentist. Prognosis depends on size, duration , and spread of the abscess. The same hold's true for root canal treatment in adult teeth.
