Swollen gums: Swollen gums are not normal. It could be periodontal (gum) problem, or an infection as well as many other possibilities. Salt water rinses and better tooth brushing\flossing may help, but without examining you, you should not rely on home remedies. It might improve and then flare-up even worse. Please see your dentist.

Good oral hygiene: The best home remedies for treating swollen gum is good oral hygiene in the area. Gum massage to improve drainage in the area also helped. Application of salt/salt rinse can also help to drain the swollen area. Check with your dentist for the cause of swollen gum. Treat the cause, not the symptom.

Dental visit: It would be smart to have the area xrayed to see if bone loss is evident and if it can be treated.
