Through the rectum: After cleaning the lower colon, an ultrasound probe is inserted into the rectum to visualize the gland and lesions, if detectable. A modified large bore needle is used to take cores, usually multiple, from the gland. The tissue is examined by a pathologist for diagnosis. Here are some ...: Here are the steps: 1. "simple" bowel prep with enema or Dulcolax suppository, which I prefer because of less messiness. Make sure of no UTI. 2. use antibiotics - oral with/without a shot... 3. Under local anesthesia with topical or nerve block, digital anal dilation followed with inserting US probe to see, measure, identify ?lesion, 4. Under US-guidance, do biopsy (12-18 pieces depending P-size).
