Gingivitis: You have gingivitis, and if you have not seen a dentist or a dental hygenist for a few years, possibly periodontitis, which is gum disease. The fact is all of us miss areas with our brush and floss, and calculus builds up. This creates a low grade infection that is always there causing inflamed gums until the tarter is removed by a professional. See your dentist for more info. No home remedy.

Cause ?: The cause of the swelling and inflammation needs to be determined. The very start of gingivitis can be reversed with meticulous oral hygiene, including brushing and flossing. If you have any periodontal pocketing or calculus deposits, you must see a dentist for care. There are no home "remedies" for dental treatment. Please call for an appointment.. It may save your teeth.

Red flag: Swelling is one of the signals your body uses to tell you that there's something wrong. By the time your gums are swollen enough to alarm you there is probably a significant gum disease problem that requires professional care, and you are probably beyond a diy cure. Please see your dentist for an examination and evaluation now. Referral to a periodontist may be indicated.
