Mediterranian: I like mediterranian one which has been documented to be beneficial not only for someone who wants to lose weight but to prevent the development of heart disease. Keep in mind, though, that besides diet, you will also need exercise routine that would help you lose more calories than what you consume. That's a must in weigh loss!

Eat fewer calories: Successful dieting requires that a person stick to a plan for months or years, so easier goals & small milestones are good. She must be happy with the foods she gets to eat, so severe calorie restriction is not successful. Eat vegetables without adding sauces and oils, except for a little olive oil. Don't use clarified butter (it's animal fat). Use non-fat milk, and only occasionally an egg yolk.

Calories in n out: See the excellent answers on "weight loss". You basically need to burn more calories than you take in. Increase your exercise, choose healthier, less-caloric foods and drinks. The nice thing is that if u build more muscle you will even burn more calories while you sleep! and don't focus too much on weight. Focus more on pants-size, etc. Muscle weighs more than fat but that's ok--its good wt.
