A member asked:

How often can you take xifaxan (rifaximin). can you take every six months for ibs?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Xifaxan (rifaximin) NOT for IBS: Ibs is a functional gastrointestinal disorder characterized by pain/cramping, altered bowel habits in the absence of specific/unique organic pathology/disease. Other symptoms common to ibs include bloating, gassiness, frequent/urge to have bm, early satiety, dyspepsia etc... Often = nuisances, but can be debilitating at times.. Antibiotics don't treat ibs. If u r concerned, consult doc.. Good luck.
