I woke up and my left eyelid is really swollen. i can only open my eye about half way. what could this be? how long should i wait before going to doc?

Blepharitis: It sounds like from your description, you have inflammation of your eye lid, which is often caused by an infection, similar to that in "pink eye" (conjunctivitis). When it comes to your eye, best not to wait, ..I would see a dr. Now. Best wishes.

Depends: Is the eyelid simply swollen with no other symptoms (redness, pain, discharge, change in the eye vision other than obstruction by the enlarged lid)? If it is just swelling, it could be allergic or sometimes an insect or spider bite. If any of the other symptoms are present, then it is worth seeing an ophthalmologist about this. Otherwise, wait a few days to see if the swelling stops.
