Nonsense: Call an ophthalmologist and get seen. If the one you called can't get you in, call another. In the meantime, you can try some cool compresses and oral benedryl.

Yes: Firstly do not use the mascara until you know if that caused your problem. Secondly, with sterile cotton balls and warm water wipe down over your eye--never up or sideways and remove any residual make-up from your eye. If your eye or lid area remain red and swollen, you should see an urgent care facility because of the risk of infection and not wait for your two week appointment. Feel better!

Till you see the doc: If you can tolerate it, take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) otc as directed on label or by pharmacist. Avoid salt. Alternate warm and cold gentle compresses over the eyes to see which works best for you at different times - they both work. Don't rub or touch unnecessarily. Don't use eye make-up during this time. Wear sunglasses outside and protective glasses if you are in an area with any irritants anywhere. Good luck!

Not Benadryl: Antihistamines are useful for hives but not for contact dermatitis. Benadryl is also used as a SLEEPING PILL! The newer antihistamines are far more effective and far safer. Call a dermatologist and indicate that you require URGENT attention. Meanwhile you can try a little hydrocortisone cream for a few days.
