Growth hormone: Human gh must be injected, and is intended for gh deficiency (eg pituitary tumor), children with short stature, and HIV muscle wasting. Gh levels naturally get low with middle age. Will gh make adults feel “younger”? Generally no. Gh may increase muscle but does not increase strength. Side effects include carpel tunnel syndrome, arthritis, gynecomastia, and can cause/worsen diabetes.

Maintain health: Like many other hormones , adult growth hormone deficiency can occur with aging. Checking the igf1, can lead us to that diagnosis. In patients with low igf1 and symptoms of growth hormone deficiency, we do a provocative test to find out if the patient is able to produce growth hormone or not, if not then we prescribe growth hormone and have follow up once a month to monitor side effects and dosing.
