Should i stop swaddling 10-wk-old w/ arms in? he wiggles so much in his sleep that i fear him rolling over, but w/ arms out he flails all night.

It depends: Some babies really feel more secure when swaddled and others feel too restrained. Just make sure he is in a safe place- no extra blankets, pillows, or toys in the crib. If he sleeps well in footed pajamas or a sleep-sack, that's fine. Just play it by ear.

Briefly: Newborns may settle better if they are swaddled because it returns them to the sameness of the womb. The random movement of arms and legs can scare them. Yet it is important to gradually loosen the swaddling and get them into proper bed attire by 1 month. I suggest sleeping in a onezie with no blanket, pillow or bumpers.By the time they roll over sids risk is rapidly decreasing.
