Which is a better benzo for extreme anxiety? klonopin (clonazepam) or ativan? i think ativan from my experience, but i want to know from a doctors view point.

NOT Ativan (lorazepam): Short acting benzos i.e. Ativan ; xanax (alprazolam) are effective against anxiety, however, if used long term for treatment , they are associated with gradual increase in baseline ; morbid anxiety levels ( worsen anxiety) . Both are faster acting than klonopin. We dont use benzos as sole treatment. Rather have to be used with certain, not all, antidepressants which modulate and regulate anxiety. Good luck.
