Possibly: Periods are controlled by your brain, which sends signals to ovaries to make estrogen/progesterone which control your cycle. Your thyroid and pituitary can affect cycles as well. Being too thin or too heavy can affect periods as well. If you would like a predictable cycle, birth control pills can help to regulate.

Delayed menses: Most times a delay in the menstrual period is a function of estrogen only cycles when ovulation does not occur. Progesterone the 2nd of two female hormones is secreted after ovulation and tends to add regularization to the cycles.
