Can a hepatitis test by my doctor show any kind of hep, including alcoholic hep?

No specific test: Liver enzyme elevation (high ast, alt) raises suspicion of hepatitis. You can then test for viral hepatitis (a, b, or c), but there's no specific test for alcoholic hepatitis. The diagnosis would be suspected in a drinker with no evidence of viral hepatitis and with elevated bilirubin and liver enzymes, especially if the ast was at least twice as high as the alt.
