I'm curious as to why haemoglobin content in newborn is more?

Varies: This is a protective issue for the most part. At delivery babies system must take over many metabolic jobs done by the mother during pregnancy. They will grow a lot in the first 2-3 months, while their blood producing centers are resting. Without the extra blood cell volume at birth, babies would become critically low in their blood cell number as they wore out without being replaced.
