Bad idea: A molded mouth guard prevents tooth movement, preventing your teeth from straightening. It is prudent, however, to wear a mouth guard for any and all contact sports. If you are seeing an orthodontic specialist he/she will have a special orthodontic mouth guard for you to wear that will protect teeth, braces, and soft tissues without interfering with corrective tooth movement.
