The face and scalp: Are very vascular and as such are a source of heat loss. This is more important in newborns as the scalp makes up a larger percentage of body surface area than in the adult and is a larger source of body heat loss. Put the lid on the kid...So to speak.

Hat: Newborn should absolutely wear a hat. A baby can lose 30 percent of its body heat by not wearing a hat.
