Depends on situation: A newborn must first pass the dark sticky meconium stool & this starts day one or is abnormal.Once it clears, if baby is breast fed they may stool a little smear every feeding or one big crib full once a week. Breast milk is so well digested that it may not leave much behind for poo. If it is soft, the frequency of stooling is not important.Formula babies go more often.

Various times: Breast fed babies may have a stool once a day, with each feeding or can sometimes go as long as a week. All these occasions are considered normal.

Newborns and pooping: Each baby has different frequency of pooping. When it suddenly changes to less or more then, it is considered constipation or diarhea. Even the amount of poop/consistency of poop matters and if changes suddenly, it is considered either as constipation or diarrhea.
