Consultations: I would have consultations with both an orthodontist & an oral-maxillofacial surgeon to determine the best route for your needed correction. If underbite is extreme, it is common to need both of them to work together to prepare you for jaw advancement surgery. Usually orthodontics is required to set up your existing "bite" to permit accurate advancement surgery.

Overbite correction: A full evaluation including xrays would be ideal. As a rule o f thumb if you have an overbite over 7 mm you may need surgery for a full correction. Non-surgical options should also be investigated.

Simple: Seek the opinion of a licensed orthodontic specialist. They will provide you with advice as to the best course of treatment for your particular situation.

Orthodontics: I would consult an orthodontist (preferable one who is board certified) to see what they think they can do for you.

See an orthodontist : It would be best to see an orthodontist. At your initial exam they should be able to answer this question for you. Sometimes more information is needed. Most of the time the initial exam is at no charge.

Check with a Pro: Ask your dentist to refer you to a qualified orthodontic specialist. The orthodontist will do an initial examination (often complimentary) and make recommendations to you. If required, the orthodontist will assemble a team consisting of the restorative dentist, oral surgeon, periodontist (if required) and the orthodontist. Together they will arrive at the best treatment plan for you.
