Yes,: In order for this to occur, the collateral discal ligaments that tightly bind the disc to the condyle must be compromised. Once these ligaments are stretched, the damage is irreversible. Patients will usually experience a "click" on opening representing disc reduction but may not always hear a closing click indicating displacement of the disc.

Yes: Sometimes the articular disk can recapture on its own, meaning it goes back in place and there will be no clicking, popping or locking. But the disk, once it has displaced/dislocated one time, will be prone to happening again...Recycles. Best to be preventative an wear a mouthpiece at night and be aware of what you can do when it displaces again.
