No: Laparoscopy is not necessary for pure hydrocele surgery. Hydrocele repairs are done through a single small scrotal incision and cause very little trauma. They are done on an outpatient basis. Laparoscopy is not suited for repair of a pure hydrocele. A combined hernia and hydrocele in a pediatric setting may be appropriate for laparoscopy, but that is an entirely different clinical scenario.

No: Laparoscopic surgery is performed for intra-abdominal conditions. Hydroceles are only skin deep in scrotum ; laparscopic instruments are > 1 foot long. Thus senseless to use laparoscopes for hydrocele surgery. Yes could be done, but would question sanity of any surgeon attemtping to complicate such a straightforward ; simple operation.
