A member asked:

Is it normal to be flushed after wisdom teeth removal? and to have pain mostly in the middle of the jaw, as opposed to where the teeth actually were?

Not abnormal: The local anesthetic can sometimes cause flushing. Pain in the middle of the jaw is most likely referred pain from the surgical site. You've had surgery , and all of your questions are warranted. Call the surgeon for confirmation.

Yes: The flushing, or increased blood flow, to your face after wisdom teeth extraction is normal and may last 1-2 to several days depending on the patient. The soreness in your jaws, instead of around the extraction sites, is called trismus. It is also normal, lasts 7-10 days depending on the surgery, and is caused by the incisions to reach your teeth needing to extend into the muscles of your jaw.
