Thats not the issue.: The sensation of pain in the gums normally represents some more important underlying factors. It can be simply due to inflammation of the gums, or serious enough due to a established periodontal disease. Pain in gums can sometimes also be due to tooth infection. You need to see your general dentist, or a periodontist, as soon as possible to evaluate your mouth as well as taking some radiographs.

Treat the cause: There are reasons for your gum pain , like inflammation or infections. Gingivitis is the prime cause of gum pain, if left untreated can leads to periodontitis which is more advanced and requires a more complicated treatment , see your dentist for semiannual cleaning and checkup, and maintain good oral hygiene standards.
