Depends: There are many possible reasons that your gums might be receding. For possible causes and treatments, seeing a dentist should be your first choice. Depending on the suspected etiology and the level of training of the dentist, the dentist might refer you to a periodontist (gum specialist).

See a periodontist: Your gums may have receded for a variety of reasons, including aggressive tooth brushing, clenching or as result of periodontal disease. You should consult with a periodontist to help you to identify the factors contributing to the cause(s). Once these contributing factors are controlled, a soft tissue graft procedure will repair the soft tissue defect and help to prevent additional recession

Support: In addition to gum disease, over aggressive brushing, para functional habits, and insufficient oral hygiene, recession is seen in patients with malocclusions and in those who have had teeth expanded beyond effective bone support. See a gum/bone specialist, a Periodontist. Restorative and/or Orthodontic evaluations may also be prudent.
