Varies: The pain should be getting a lot better, if it is not, you may want to return to your doctor for a check. A feeling of fullness, decreased hearing, and popping and crackling in the ears that can sometimes be painful all can stay around for a few weeks to a few months.

Many issues: If the abx is effective the middle ear pus should be sterilized within 3-4 days. Fever should be down also. The fluid that is trapped with the infection may persist for 4-6 weeks. Fever persisting >3 d should prompt a call to the treating physician. Adults who are not hearing clearly by 4-6 wks should be re-evaluated. Pain after a week should prompt a call to the doc.
