Open fracture: Or compound fracture, with exposed bone, can result in an infection. If there is exposed bone and the injury has not been cleaned well and is not under the care of a physician then it needs attention. Some fingertip injuries with exposed bone and soft tissue injury at the same level can be treated with dressing changes with good results but it is under the supervision of a qualified surgeon.
