HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) and BP: Hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) (h) can be used to treat hbp. It can cause some changes in your serum electrolytes with low sodium and potassium being a consequence of its use. Most people, as they age, need more than a diuretic to control their bp. If one has no edema, perhaps another class of drugs, ace-i or arb's, is a better choice as they provide more cardiac and renal protection than h. Speak to your doctor about this.
