History/Examination : A GI doctor would obtain a history of the bleeding. He/she will ask pertinent questions and determine frequency and if there is any associated pain with bowel movements or straining due to hard stools /constipation. Family history of colon cancer will be asked so impt to know it. A rectal exam and colonoscopy may be indicated based on your family history and response to questions.
