Cleanse, ER visit: A stray dog is one whose history you do not know.You should wash the wound well with soap and water. Then find the owner if possible to investigate the immunization record of the dog especially against rabies. If truly a stray, there is a risk, and you should visit your er for advice. Rabies is a condition that can make dogs aggresive and more likely to bite.

If bitten by a dog ;: Wound is minor - wash w soap ; water, apply antibiotic ointment ; cover w bandaid /bandage. For more serious wound or possible infection, apply pressure ; obtain urgent care. Per mayo clinic, if last tetanus shot was > 5 years ago ; wound is “deep or dirty”, a booster shot may be recommended. If you are bitten by wild animal or there ^’ed rabies risk obtain care asap.
