You would know: The term nervous breakdown is not really a mental health state. It is what the general public calls all severe psychological disorders. There are many possible reasons for someone to need to consider hospitalization for overwhelming emotional issues, i.e., a breakdown. When you simply cannot function at work or at home, it means you need some professional help asap.

Nervous Breakdown: This is a catch all term that can mean several things, usually it is a phrase people use when they feel like they are falling apart. If so ask your doctor for a referral to a mental health specialist in your area as it is likely that you can be helped. Best.
