Absolutely: Deconditioning can happen very fast, and commonly can be progressive in patients confined to wheelchairs. That being said, there are a number of other things that can affect the respiration of someone wheelchair-bound. This includes, functional scoliosis, weak accessory muscles, certain types of restrictive lung disease, cardiac issues, and even dvt's leading to pe's. Discuss with a physiatrist.
