MFM, pedi cardiology: Only maternal-fetal medicine specislists and pediatric cardiologists have had sufficient training to assess the fetal cardiac anatomy and its myriad perturbations adequately. In fact, most mfms will perform the initial cardiac echo and refer to a pediatric cardiology expert in congenital heart defect for additional input and final diagnosis/plan of care.

At Universities across the nation departments of OB and radiology went to war for the rights to perform the studies.In places like Vanderbilt and Brigham and Women's, the radiologists won. At the U of Wisconsin the Geneticists won.
