A member asked:

With marked vascular changes/sclerosis, sometortuosity and venous dialation, what grade of hypertens retinopathy do i have? discs/maculae are okay. my ophthalmologist said vessels look 20 yrs older.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Grade not important: The grade of retinopathy is not important unless its very severe. Both systems the keith-wagener-barker and the scheie system grade retinopathy by the attenuation (sclerosis) of the blood vessels and end with severe disc swelling. Usually, only the disc swelling resolves with treatment of blood pressure. The vascular changes may remain even in well treated patients. Control blood pressure!
