Potentially: Protein has 4 calories/gram, the same as carbohydrate. If you ate enough protein in addition to other intake that was 3500 calories more than you burned off, you would gain a pound. Protein doesn't enter your system as protein, otherwise you would end up looking like what you ate. In addition, excessive protein intake is potentially harmful to the kidneys.
