Why worry?: There is nothing you can do directly to prevent if it is a genetic illness. Life bangs us all around a bit and if we have the genetics of depression, which by the way require more than one gene, then there's a chance that we will develop it and a chance that it could be recurrent or chronic. Trust that as they get older the treatments will be better and perhaps even a cure will be found.

Agree w' Dr Jacobson: But also encourage you to get the best therapy you can so that you can be present for your children. That will be the most preventative medicine for them. The stronger you are the better you will be able to launch them into adulthood. The fact that you are asking lets me know that you are a caring parent and will do your best.
