A member asked:

Infected tooth was treated with antibiotics months ago, still has cavity. face pain, pain in temples. can this kill me? or were antibiotics enough?

See dentist ASAP : The antibiotic alone is not enough to cure the tooth infection that you had. It is still there, as you knows from your symptoms. This infection will continue until you have the tooth treated or extracted. Leaving an infection can cause a serious health problem. See a dentist now.

Temporary fix: Antibiotics are used to reduce the inflammatory response so that the tooth can be repaired or removed. You need to complete the treatment.

Cavity = Trouble: The tooth has not been treated, only the symptoms of the infection were treated. You need to have the tooth restored properly or extracted, and soon. It has been festering for too long. Why are you waiting? Can't possibly get better on its own. Can it kill you ? Rare, but yes it can. Call today for an appointment.

Unfinished treatment: You are subjecting yourself to unnecessary pain, grief, lost time and tooth loss. Untreated dental problems do not resolve on their own. Antibiotics merely mask or temporary bring infections under control. Infections, cavities, and other dental problems just get worse over time and then return with a vengeance! i wouldn't only worry about death if i were you. Other major medical issues possible.

Yes, No: Yes, it can kill you. No, antibiotics don't treat tooth decay, only temporarily help infections. You need to see your dentist ASAP.

See a dentist ASAP: A tooth infection won't go away without treatment and the infection may spread to your jaw, cheeks, sinus and to other areas of your head and neck. OTC pain medications such as NSAIDs, Tylenol (acetaminophen) or prescribe antibiotics can all reduce the symptoms, but none of these treats the cause. Visit a dentist ASAP for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
