Arthritis?: Basal joint arthritis is common. Get thumb and wrist x-rays and see a hand surgeon.

Varied: It sounds like possible arthritis at the base of the thumb, the most common sight of osteoarthritis or possible tendinitis at the wrist. You may need to rest the joint or tendon area and may need higher doses of anti inflammatory medications. You should see an orthopedist or rheumatologist to make correct diagnosis and startvpropervtherapy.

Wrist tendinitis: At base of the thumb especially in what is known as the first dorsal compartment, an entity commonly known as dequervain's or stenosing tenosynovitis of the radial styloid can affect thumb motion, wrist motion, writing, pain with pinching the thumb and turning your hand at the same time, nsaids, soft splints and at times an injection helps. Other issues: joint pain, nerve pain or just fatigue.
