What are the risks of being 40 and pregnant?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pregnant at 40...: While I am a psychiatrist i believe there is a potential for an increased risk of birth defect occurring. If you were my sister i would tell you to discuss this topic with your ob/gyn physician and strongly suggest you have an amniocentesis done. Also research both parents family trees to see if there is any familial history of birth defects. Hope that helps ; i'm sure others here will add info.
