Constipation: Start by modifing your diet.Reduce milk and milk products. Increase fruits , vegetables, nuts, dates, raisins and figs. Eat high fibered cereals. If diet change doesnt help, try taking MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) as recommended.

And if...: If the excellent suggestions by dr. Novick don't help enough, you might consider seeing a "gastroenterologist" (often called a "gi specialist"). There are even GI docs who specialize in motility problems, which often cause constipation. Start simple, though. Lots of fiber, exercise, water.

Diet/softner/fluids: It is not normal to poop every 4 to7 days.Normaly a person will move bowels once or twice a day if you are moving your bowels every4 to7 days you should consult your doctor, you may need adjustment in your diet, like more fluids, high fiber content and may need a stool softner or a laxative for a short period until you get regular.
