A known side: Effect as it can lead to decreased appetite. But it isn't utilized for weight loss specifically. There is a stimulant, Vyvanse, (lisdexamfetamine) that is used to help control appetite issues in patients suffering from Binge Eating Disorder.

Only initially: People often lose weight when beginning treatment with a stimulant such as Ritalin (methylphenidate). This is an effect of such drugs that usually wears off quickly. It is not intended for weight loss.
