Five: Wait until at least age five. Umbilical hernias in infancy will often resolve spontaneously and not need surgery.

5: Most umbilical hernias will get better by age 5. If it gets bigger or causes a lot of pain you should discuss repair options with a surgeon. Remember most umbilical hernias in kids get better on their own.
